Czech students dominate traditional soccer derby

Published: 14.11.2025

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the traditional soccer match between students of the Czech and English study programs at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen took place at the SK Petřín sports ground. This year’s event had a festive character – it became part of the program celebrating the 80th anniversary of the faculty. The Czech students won decisively 10:3 and put on a goal-scoring show that was enjoyed by more than two hundred fans.

The match was kicked off by Prof. MUDr. Milan Štengl, Ph.D., future dean of the Faculty of Medicine, together with Mgr. Martin Červený, head of the Department of Physical Education. With their gesture, both symbolically emphasized the importance of sport and friendly meetings within the faculty community.

The pitch was busy from the opening minutes. The Czech students started actively and Ondřej Kučera opened the scoring in the 10th minute, adding a second goal shortly afterwards. Before halftime, Lukáš Vymyslický, David Gondzala, Vojtěch Půta, and Jan Zelenka scored, and the 6-0 score after the first half foreshadowed the clear outcome of the match.

The second half brought more goals and applause from the packed stands. The foreign students reduced the deficit to 1-6, but after a foul on Martin Hříbal, Ondřej Kučera converted the penalty again, scoring a hat trick and ultimately four goals in the match. Ivan Novosad and Vojtěch Bercha added to the final score of 10-3.

Despite the fast pace of the game, referees Vojtěch Měřička, Jan Kraus, and Zdeněk Lapák had the situation firmly under control. The atmosphere was excellent—more than 200 students created a boisterous environment that drove both teams forward. The spectators enjoyed not only the sporting commitment, but also the friendly rivalry that is typical of this traditional event.

The match ended with a 10:3 (6:0) victory for the Czech team. Ondřej Kučera was named the best player of the match.
