We asked: campus drinking water

Published: 27.06.2024

“Hello, …. it occurs to me that we are missing a Filtermac or some such facility on campus! I fill my bottle from the tap, but I have come across students buying water in a plastic bottle because they don’t trust tap water on campus.. do you think it would be possible to pass this information on to someone who would be willing to consider this idea in some way? ….”

On quality of could drinking water, we asked Ing. Libor Kočí from the Project department, Jan Leitl – head of the LFP canteen and café, Ing. Petr Vais from the Operations and Technical Department and Ing. Marie Klečková –Secretary of the Faculty.

Would it be possible to place Filetrmac on the campus?

L. Kočí | As part of the construction of the campus, we have tentatively prepared a few taps in the corridor area that would allow the connection of the Filtermac. However, once the campus was completed, we assessed that additional filtration systems were superfluous, as the quality of the drinking water in the faculty water supply is very good.

Are you concerned about the quality of tap water in the canteen?

J. Leitl | Not at all. The Plzeň has the most modern water treatment technologies and the quality of water in Plzeň is among the best in the country. In the canteen, we use tap water for the preparation of lemonades and other drinks. A possible disadvantage of regular tap water may be the lack of effervescence or cooling, but these needs are covered by the café’s offer.

Can the water on campus really be trusted?

P. Vais | The quality of drinking water is monitored and guaranteed by the supplier – Vodarna Plzeň. It even publishes information on the quality of water in specific locations on its website for the general public to see.

M. Klečková | Maintaining the quality of drinking water on campus, which focuses on human health, is naturally very important to us. Students and staff need not fear drinking tap water. We are happy when people on campus choose local water over drinks in disposable plastic bottles. The PR department is currently preparing glass bottles for the faculty e-store.
